A delegation from Associated British Foods (ABF), led by its Chief Executive, George Weston, held a meeting with Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) recently.
This is as per reports which added the purpose of this meeting was to explore possibilities for collaboration in pursuing common sustainability goals and expanding business opportunities in Bangladesh.
The ABF delegation also included Paul Lister, Chief Financial Officer of ABF, Paul Marchant, Chief Executive Officer of Primark, and Matt Rhodes, Manager of Primark.
The meeting took place at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, the capital of Bangladesh and in attendance were Miran Ali, Vice President of BGMEA, along with directors Faisal Samad, Navidul Huq, Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan, Chair of BGMEA’s standing committee on Press, Publication, and Publicity Shovon Islam, and Chair of BGMEA’s standing committee on Trade Fair Mohammad Kamal Uddin.
The discussions revolved around various shared interests, including the strengthening of partnerships with Bangladeshi suppliers to create more innovative and value-added products while enhancing environmental performance.
During the meeting, Faruque Hassan provided an overview of Bangladesh’s readymade garment industry even as emphasised its current position in the global market, vision, advancements in workplace safety, environmental sustainability efforts, and the concept of circular fashion. He also highlighted the Sustainability Strategic Vision 2030 for Bangladesh’s RMG industry, explaining how it addresses various environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues relevant to the sector, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
