Workers of three recently closed apparel manufacturing units in Adamjee, Dhaka EPZ, have, reportedly, received their dues.
This was maintained in a report, which cited a press note issued by the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) in this regard on 23 February (Tuesday), as per which, the same was made possible by the relentless efforts of the BEPZA.
The BEPZA Executive Chairman, reportedly, held several rounds of discussions with concerned entities’ representatives to facilitate the same.
The three factories are namely Lenny Fashions Limited and Lenny Apparels Limited of Dhaka EPZ, and Kwun Tong Apparels Limited of Adamjee EPZ.
As per reports, Lenny Apparels Ltd. and Lenny Fashions have, reportedly, been operating in Dhaka EPZ since 1999 and 2010, respectively, while Kwun Tong Apparels Ltd. had been operating business in Adamjee EPZ since 2006.
Subsequent to the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis that ensued in its wake, all the three factories, reportedly, closed down.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Lenny Fashions and Lenny Apparels Ltd., together paying Taka 42.25 crore to 6,730 workers in dues even as Taka 18.58 crore to 5,787 workers (against their provident fund and gratuity) was paid by Kwun Tong Apparels Ltd.
