Following Bangladesh Government’s decision to allow all export-oriented industries to resume operations even as the countrywide 14-day-long COVID-19 lockdown continues still, various organisations have called upon the Government to ensure workers’ transportation and health security.
Media reports maintained this while adding some labour bodies have opposed the Government’s decision to reopen the factories amidst the lockdown.
As per reports, workers’ body Garment Sramik Sanghati along with other organisations issued press statements protesting the Government’s decision even as they demanded mass vaccination and testing programmes for the workers and arranging transportation for them while maintaining health protocols before the factories are opened.
A press communique issued by the Bangladesh OSK Garments and Textile Workers Federation further, reportedly, maintained that the decision to reopen factories was arbitrary.
The decision came at a time when experts suggested extending the lockdown…reportedly underlined the press note.
