Organisations leading the American fashion industry have outlined their support of California’s proposed Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act in a joint letter.
In order to secure an evolutionary road for gathering emissions data, the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), the Accessories Council, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) joined forces to endorse the law.
The proposed law would force businesses operating in California that generate more than US $ 1 billion in yearly gross revenue to publicly report their annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The bill’s authors also pointed out that it was consistent with the Threads Protocol, which was put forth by the organisations in January 2023 to help policymakers ensure the evolution of sustainable solutions in the sector.
On the Act, AAFA president and CEO Steve Lamar, said, “The continual warming of our planet poses a significant risk to our industry and our communities.”
