The holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr knocking at the door, around 200 readymade garment factories could not pay workers’ salaries and festival bonuses as of 11 May (Tuesday) claimed union leaders, as per media reports.
Meanwhile speaking to the media, President of Bangladesh Apparel Workers Federation, Towhidur Rahman, reportedly, maintained that many apparel manufacturing units were trying to clear the same on the last working day before Eid even as President of the Sammilito Garment Sramik Federation, Nazma Akter, on her part, reportedly, underlined that more than 90 per cent of the garment factories have paid the salary and bonus to the workers so far but went on to add that her organisation had been receiving complaints from workers of different factories that they were yet to be paid.
The President of the Sammilito Garment Sramik Federation further, reportedly, added that garment workers need to be paid properly and timely as they have been working amidst the risk of contracting coronavirus during the month of fasting.
