The internationally renowned LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system places a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
According to the BGMEA, out of the 218 recognised factories, 84 have received the highest rating of platinum, 120 have received gold, 10 have received silver, and four are certified.
Of the newly certified factories, eight were given the platinum rating in the first five months of 2024, and the other four were given the gold grade.
With 56 of the 100 LEED-certified green factories in the world located here, Bangladesh is positioned as a pioneer in the global sustainable fashion movement, according to the BGMEA.
According to the BGMEA data, this comprises nine out of the top ten and eighteen out of the top twenty LEED-certified factories worldwide.
The RMG industry’s broad commitment to sustainability is demonstrated by the regional distribution of these certifications inside Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s apparel sector is leading the way in environmental stewardship and securing a prominent position in the worldwide movement towards more sustainable manufacturing methods by actively pursuing LEED ratings.
