Though it is buoyant news that Bangladesh is geared to double its exports by 2020, the biggest challenge that it will face is working in a sustainable environment, beginning from perfecting safety standards to controlling labour unrests, due to unsatisfactory wages and moving on to address energy conservation. Even though the Bangladesh industry has only recently turned its attention to countering these bottlenecks, TÜV SÜD has been working in these areas relentlessly for the past four years, with its team guiding and training the industry for a better understanding, while also conducting compliance audits, environmental audits and electrical and fire safety audits.
“Training has been a major thrust for TÜV SÜD from the time it formally incorporated its operation in Bangladesh in 2009, informs K. Nagaraj, GM-Laboratories, TÜV SÜD Bangladesh (Pvt.) Ltd. It is a well established fact that Bangladesh has its edge in the garment exports sector because of the conducive environment and the ability of the industry to deliver as per the needs and requirements of buyers around the world. “Like most other industries, this industry too, may face challenges along its growth. However, I am confident that the Bangladesh industry is poised for an exponential growth and has the ability to handle the challenges and continue its growth story. One of the key factors for this will consist of compliance audits, energy audits, and appropriate training, which will further ensure that compliance is recognized as a vital factor for the Bangladesh industry to retain the status of the Preferred Supplier of Retailers,” says Nagaraj. For this very reason, TÜV SÜD provides customized training solutions in testing, regulation, inspection and quality assurance. The company is also launching two training certification programs for ISO 15001 and ISO 9001.
“With an experience of over 140 years in quality assurance certification, backed by German excellence, TÜV SÜD is relatively new to the Bangladesh garments industry, having executed its operations four years ago. This, however, never proved to be a challenge, considering our wide global expertise and experience of delivering solutions to an extensive network of customers across the globe. Moreover, this has helped the team in Bangladesh to understand and deliver tailor made solutions which are relevant to market needs that further help us in adapting a proactive approach to grow faster,” reasons Nagaraj.
Laying great stress on service and commitment, TÜV SÜD has set standards that set them apart. “We start at zero per cent tolerance and also ensure that our TAT (turn-around-time) for the customers remain accurate as per our commitment. We believe that if we save time for them, we also help in saving money,” says Nagaraj.
“Our focus in the forthcoming years would be to maintain the high standards of service which we are already rendering to the industry and also to highlight our chemical and regulations testing services,” concludes Nagaraj.
