AFWA informed that the Gwynne Skinner Human Rights Award recognises the work of individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to corporate accountability. AFWA is honoured and proud to have been named as a co-recipient of this important award.
It further added that the Dindigul Agreement is a victory for the Asian garment labour movement. It shows that transformation, social justice and progress are possible even in the harshest of conditions.
AFWA believes the award is a profound recognition of the efforts of thousands of feminists and women’s rights defenders like Jeyasre, many of whom have lost their lives, trying to create better worlds for all of us. This award is a note of hope and inspiration for the millions of Asian garment workers and their unions, that their struggles for decent work, living wages and a violence-free workplace, are heard and seen by people around the world.
