The leading Italy-based manufacturer of thermal insulation for clothing and sleeping bags, Thermore has recently launched its latest sustainable product, Ecodown Fibers, which the company claims to be 100 per cent made out of PET bottles.
The latest fibres will be showcased at the upcoming trade shows across the globe; Milano Unica (10-12 July), Performance Days New York City (23-24 July), Outdoor Retailer (23-26 July), Munich Fabric Start (4-6 September), and Première Vision (19-21 September).
“Every jacket insulated with Thermore’s fibres has reused up to 10 consumer bottles. Apart from a warm feel, the insulation achieves a soft touch without the use of micro-fibres, which contaminates oceans and ultimately, our own eatables,” the company said in a press statement.
Furthermore, the insulation is long-lasting because of its multi-shape structure. The products have a decelerating high resistance and do not clump when washed. A recent survey has revealed that 80 per cent of apparels manufactured for winters are still insulated with duck feathers. This happens because of the lack of synthetic solution which gives the same look and loft as Down.
Additionally, the Ecodown Fibers ensure the same loft as high quality 90/10 feathers and can similarly be insulated into a cloth, according to the company. The loft of down products is calculated with the fill power test, where the materials are blown through a cylinder and their volume is calculated.
The higher the ‘fill power’, the puffier the jacket. Tests performed on Thermore’s latest products have suggested an outstanding fill power of over 600, that gives the product a guaranteed puffy look.
