Textile units, RMG factories can save up to 50 per cent energy through heat recovery technology, says expert

With growing focus on sustainable manufacturing practices that could help preserve the natural resources, experts are emphasising on using new technologies which would help the textile units and garment manufacturing facilities to save up to 50 per cent of energy.

“Normally, heat recovery technology can increase energy efficiency by 25-30 per cent. But, there are some technologies being used in the USA and the UK that have the potential to increase efficiency by up to 50 per cent,” maintained Dr. Chandra Sekhara Reddy Chirla, an energy efficiency expert working with the Singapore Refinery Company Private Limited while participating at a workshop organised by tZZZhe German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in association with Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (Sreda) and Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS), in Dhaka recently.

Speaking from his experience, Dr. Chirla maintained that textile units which use boilers for dyeing fabrics can benefit a lot using the heat recovery technology. “If they use flue gas for their energy, it could easily increase their energy efficiency,” Dr. Chirla reportedly stated that adding textile and garment plants have a good potential to use the technology, while harping on Government’s support to popularise the same.

“The Government must encourage industries and power plants by providing them with some sort of incentives for using energy-efficient technology,” reportedly underlined the expert while adding that if factories and power plants use heat recovery technology, they can get returns on their investment within only two years.
