In a bid to help reduce the usage of harmful industrial chemicals to zero by 2020, the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Programme has officially announced that inspection and verification company SGS is now one of its signatories.
“The work we do is important because it’s aimed at making the value chain simpler, safer and more efficient. We’ve been working closely together with ZDHC over the past few years and it’s great to now make this collaboration official,” said Spencer Yeung, SGS Vice President – Global Softlines.
Eight new firms have joined the ZDHC Programme this month – The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), The Unione Nazionale Industria Conciara (UNIC), Seri.co of Centro Tessile Serico (CTS), a testing laboratory and product certification system, and Covestro, a leading supplier of high-tech polymer materials, including waterborne raw materials for textiles and synthetic leather. Apparel brands like Adidas, Benneton, C&A, GAP, H&M, Inditex, Levi Strauss and Co, M&S, Nike and PVH Corp. are already a part of ZDHC Programme.
