Executives of Texprocil (The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council) visited the New York Home Fashions Market to present the most recent information regarding the Indian Government’s massive effort to use its strongest domestic cotton as a branding tool.
The Kasturi Cotton initiative was unveiled on World Cotton Day in October 2023. Its purpose is to create a platform for traceability and a brand to guarantee the genuineness of the cotton’s journey from the farm to the finished product. Major Indian textile producers like Trident Group, Indo Count, Arvind Ltd., and Vardhman were among the early users of Kasturi Cotton, according to Texprocil, which manages certification and traceability in collaboration with the Cotton Corporation of India.
Beyond the present 29 mm and 30 mm staple lengths, plans are in place to launch new versions made of extra-long staple (ELS) cotton with fibre lengths of 31 mm and longer. Kasturi Cotton’s blockchain traceability technology is a key component of its strategy. Customers are among the stakeholders that can follow the cotton through each step of production. The platform is made to adjust to changing laws in the international supply chain.
The programme also works in partnership with Indian Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to raise farmers’ knowledge of sustainable agricultural methods and best practices. Furthermore, Kasturi Cotton expands the range of sustainable cotton products by collaborating with Regenagri Cotton, Organic Cotton, and the Better Cotton Initiative.
