Première Vision New York recently held ‘Smart Square’, a platform through which they aim to promote responsible fashion. It highlighted technological innovations of fashion industry by presenting two sample looks made of tech – advancing and sustainable materials.
Endowed Designers like Sylvia Heisel and Bethany Williams were the geniuses responsible for these breakthroughs. British designer Bethany Williams created entire knitwear outfits by using recycled, ecological, and waste resources from Clay’s book being produced in Suffolk, England whereas Sylvia Heisel exhibited a 3D printed biodegradable dress.
A former designer, Sylvia Heisel, with her vision to fabricate a methodology to design and manufacture 3D printed garments, hopes to create a platform that produces zero waste garments made from biological materials. The garment unveiled at the stage was a charcoal and leaf coloured 3D printed A-line tank dress made from decomposable composite resin.
The hand illustrations on the dress and additive manufacturing are two of the many characteristics of the dress. Such designs are printed flat, that initiate a zero-waste procedure and eradicate the need to cut and sew. The garment is sturdy enough for wearability purpose and have a fine shelf life.
British designer Bethany Williams exhibited an outfit from her SS19 lineup ‘No Address Needed to Join’. Staying true to her origins, the collection was manufactured from recycled and biodegradable materials.
For the collection, raw material was procured from Chris Carney Collections, a recycling and sorting unit where it goes on to be washed before the hand knitting process. The material is weaved with fabrics and mixed with book waste.
This platform was launched to shed light on the gen-next fashion. With a new artistic method, modernisation with sustainability, the aim of the experiment was to benefit the entire fashion industry.
