Bangladesh Government is mulling a new agency for registering new manufacturing units in the country.
Media reports maintained this while adding the Government plans to form an authority comprising Environment Department, the fire service and the Labour Ministry, to act as one-stop service provider, to issue factory registration and renew those.
A decision in this regard was, reportedly, taken at a public meeting presided over by Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman, which was attended by President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), State Minister for Labour, the Industries Minister, senior officials of the concerned ministries and departments and a representative of the FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries).
The reports, citing sources, added, a sub-committee has been formed led by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman to set the jurisdictions of the new authority even as the sub-committee will submit its report within the next three months, while adding that the meeting also decided that in the next four to six weeks, factory inspections should start.
