The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), a statutory body in India, has been taking several steps to promote Khadi globally. The latest move is inking collaboration with Montenegro.
Montenegro diplomats will wear khadi outfit during their national day event scheduled to take place on July 13.The event has been named ‘Trendy Montenegro with Indian Khadi’.
KVIC sees this collaboration as an opportunity to globalise the concept of the natural fabric, which is a core property of Khadi. It is a zero-carbon footprint industry that patronises Indian artisans.
“The event will help us to promote use of Khadi internationally with the Montenegrin and European trends, creating a global market for Khadi,” KVIC Chairman V K Saxena was quoted as saying in a statement issued.
The association will also help KVIC to create promotional commercial sales of its products.
“Top diplomats, of many countries, who will participate in the Montenegrin national day celebrations in Delhi will get acquainted with Khadi,” said Janice Darbari, Honorary Consul General of Montenegro in India, who expressed her happiness over KVIC collaborating with Montenegro.
In another such development, the Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board (RKVIB) has proposed to make khadi uniform mandatory for at least 50,000 employees deployed at 6,500 operational petrol pumps in Rajasthan.
The proposal has been sent to the union ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
A similar move has been taken by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to make khadi uniform mandatory for its 4,000 sanitation workers. The PMC has placed an order of consignment of 8,000 sets of shirts and trousers for men, 8,000 sets of salwar-kurtas for women, and 4,000 pieces of caps.
