World’s largest manufacturer of spandex, Hyosung, has released results of a new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) wherein the environmental performance of its 100 per cent creora® regen spandex is compared to its virgin creora spandex.
Hyosung is a comprehensive fibre manufacturer that produces world-class products, providing innovation and solutions to the textile industry.
A study done by a third-party verifier distinctly showed that creora® regen spandex brings down CO2 emissions by two-thirds, when compared to production of virgin spandex.
This study was conducted by Networks Y, which is a Korea-based LCA consultancy.
So what’s the study said!
Notably, the third party performed a carbon footprint calculation – the amount of CO2 emitted from the entire life cycle of a product – of both fibres from pre-manufacturing to the manufacturing stage.
It was distinctly concluded from the study that creora® regen spandex minimises CO2 production by around 67 per cent or around two-thirds compared to its creora® spandex in the production of 1 kg.
An elated Mike Simko, Hyosung Global Marketing Director, Textiles, said “We know that our creora® regen is unique because we only produce 100 per cent recycled content, and our LCA helps quantify why that is important.”
Ever since Hyosung’s creora® regen spandex was unveiled in January 2020, the company has produced an amount of fibre to offset the number of CO2 emissions equivalent to driving 1,000 times around the globe.
In fact, the production of creora® regen has the green-house gas absorption impact of enough mature pine trees to cover San Francisco’s Presidio.
Hyosung’s creora® regen spandex is GRS, HIGGS MSI and Oeko-tex certified. It is in the process of obtaining a material health certificate under the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard.
