Bangladesh Government has recently given the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Taka 18.2 million as assistance, to be given in turn to the family members of 91 garment workers who have died in various garment manufacturing units of the country.
As per media reports, the Labour and Employment Ministry on Sunday donated this amount, which was provided as assistance from its central fund.
Begum Monnujan Sufian, the State Minister for Labour and Employment, handed over the donation to BGMEA representative at the 13th meeting of the central fund.
Further, an amount of Taka 2.59 million was also handed over to the representatives of the traders’ body (BGMEA) towards payment of arrears by manufacturing units forced to close down.
Apart from the State Minister for Labour and Employment, Labour and Employment Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Joint General Secretary of Mohila Sramik League Syeda Khairun Nahar Tamrin, central fund Director General Md. Amir Hossain, board member of central fund Sirajul Islam Rony, BGMEA Secretary Commodore (Retd.) Mahammad Abdur Razzaque, amongst others joined the meeting held at the Labour and Employment Ministry.
