The Global Fashion Agenda or GFA, while closing one chapter – where it revealed findings from its mandatory final report as part of its 2020 Circular Fashion System Commitment – has announced a new 12-month project aimed at driving forward circularity in the Bangladesh apparel manufacturing industry.
Called the Circular Fashion Partnership, this new project would reportedly help develop Bangladesh’s recycling infrastructure so as to combat waste.
The GFA in a press event on Monday (30 November) made public the progress made by the retailers and brands on the 2020 Circular Fashion System Commitment, introduced in 2017 to set circular supply chain targets.
According to Senior Sustainability Manager of GFA, Holly Syrett, the goal of the new project (which would reportedly run until the end of 2021) is to find a ‘scalable transition to a circular fashion system in Bangladesh’.
For us, the circular economy is no more a concept, it is the future, reportedly maintained President of Bangladesh’s apex garment makers body (the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association-BGMEA), Dr. Rubana Huq while reportedly underlining Bangladesh has potential to earn more than US $ 4 billion from its fabric scraps.
