A fire incident was recently reported at Knitwear’s three out of four buildings of Zaheen garments factory at Madanpur of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj, in Bangladesh.
Media reports citing concerned Fire Service and Civil Defence officials underlined soon after getting information of the fire, a total of 13 firefighting units from Bandar fire service, Narayanganj, Sonargaon and Dhaka rushed to the premises of Zaheen Knitwears and brought the fire under control even as the origin of which could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
The fire broke out early morning on Friday (28 January) and spread to the ground and first floors of four out of six buildings on the compound in the Madanpur bus stand area, reportedly, claimed Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service Abdullah Al Arefin.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, the Managing Director of Jamaluddin Group that owns Zaheen Knitwears, Md. Jamal Uddin, reportedly, claimed the factory had adequate fire safety system and that the disaster would not have happened had it been fully open even if most of the units were closed due to weekend.
Md. Jamal Uddin further, reportedly, claimed the factory suffered a loss of Taka 280 million to Taka 300 million as goods ready for shipment and machinery were destroyed in the fire.
