In an effort to close the skills gap that currently exists in the industry, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (Euratex) has introduced a new project for reskilling and upskilling the textile, clothing, leather, and footwear (TCLF) industries in the EU.
As part of the effort, Euratex indicated that it will work with the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry and the Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community to encourage the establishment of regional partnerships in the skills sector.
The goal of this new SkillBridge project, which is funded by DG GROW (Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs), is to assist in the creation of action plans in collaboration with local TCLF industry, education providers, and regional authorities.
According to Euratex, these action plans ought to adapt to the TCLF industry’s shifting demands for skill and education. The project will support SMEs in creating reskilling or upskilling programmes within their organisations and provide a mobility plan for industry players in the region.
Euratex director general, Dirk Vantyghem, commented, “Addressing the skills gap, and attracting young people with the right set of skills, is essential to strengthen the European textiles industry.”
