
A four-member delegation of European Parliament expressed satisfaction over safety efforts carried out by Bangladesh in the readymade garment (RMG) industry. The visit and subsequent praise has come ahead of the May 18 review of the Sustainability Compact which was rolled out after the Rana Plaza tragedy in 2013, and the June annual International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to be held in Geneva.
“We found very positive development, and we’ll go back to Brussels with a note that you have done a lot in the ensuing safety. Accord has been very successful. We’ll take positive samples from Bangladesh back to Brussels,” Arne Lietz, a member of the delegation, was quoted as saying by a leading Bangladeshi portal.

It is pertinent to mention here that the EU is a strong partner of Bangladesh, as reflected in the robust trade relations underpinned by the ‘Everything But Arms’ or EBA market access regime.
