Recognising the pivotal role of workers’ well-being in the growth, reputation, and sustained success of the Readymade Garment (RMG) industry, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has undertaken dedicated initiatives to enhance the welfare of garment workers in Bangladesh.
In a significant stride towards this goal, BGMEA has forged a partnership with Helen Keller International, a global organisation committed to preventing blindness and advancing eye health, to deliver comprehensive eye care services to the workforce.
At an inauguration workshop held at the BGMEA Complex on 13th January, representatives from BGMEA and Helen Keller expressed their shared commitment to the successful implementation of the eye care initiative, as per a press release.
The collaboration focuses on offering primary eye care services, encompassing basic eye examinations, provision of prescription glasses, and referrals for more complex eye disorders.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan praised the collaboration during his address, emphasising its potential to significantly improve the eye health of garment workers. He highlighted that providing eye care services not only ensures the physical well-being of workers but also contributes to workplace productivity, safety, and overall job satisfaction.
