Close on the heels of KDS IDR Limited, a garment factory in Kalurghat, receiving a Platinum certificate from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) recently, Bangladesh has now become home to half of the top green factories globally.
Media reports claimed this while adding China has the second highest number of Platinum rated factories with only 10 while Pakistan is placed third with nine even as other global leaders in LEED certification include Sri Lanka and India with six each closely followed by Taiwan and Vietnam with four. Myanmar and the US each reportedly have two platinum-rated factories while Italy, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland, Ireland, Paraguay, Romania, Turkey and the UAE have one piece.
It may be mentioned here that the Platinum certification is the highest category in the ranking system, followed by Gold as the second highest and Silver as the third highest.
There is also a fourth category as well for industrial units that just meet the minimum requirements.
