Labour leaders in Bangladesh on 27th June reportedly formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club and their demand for the immediate arrest of the killers of the garment labour leader, Shahidul Islam, who was allegedly beaten to death at Sataish Baganbari in Tongi area of Gazipur on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, labour leader from the Jatiya Grihasramik Federation, Abul Hossain reportedly maintained Shahidul Islam was allegedly killed on Sunday by the cadres of a garment factory owner while he was negotiating the demands of the garment workers.
A native of Rajabari area under Shreepur upazila in Gazipur, Shahidul was the Gazipur unit president of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers’ Federation even as Tongi West Police Station officer-in-charge Md Shah Alam has underlined Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers’ Federation had filed a case with the police station related to incident, naming six people and five to seven unidentified people.
