Bangladesh has inked an agreement with a German company to generate 3,600 MW power, in line with its vision to have quality utility services for the business atmosphere.
Bangladesh North West Power Generation Company Limited (BNWPGCL) inked the deal with German company Siemens AG for the power generation plant, which will be situated at Payra, Patuakhali, at a hotel in Dhaka on September 8, 2018.
Dipak Kumar Dhali, Secretary for the Bangladeshi power generation company entered into the agreement as Richard Clayton Reisig, president of Siemens (gas and power), stamped his seal at the signing.
The deal will include primary assessment work (including feasibility study), finalisation of the entire power plant project, a deal to purchase power, appointment of a contracting firm, maintenance work of the plant and plans on how to secure loans for it.
Ahmad Kaykaus, power secretary for Bangladesh Government, said, “Bangladesh has reached the power generation capacity of 20,000 MW. Power will have a significant contribution towards the achievement of our government’s Vision 2041.”
Among others present during the signing ceremony were BNWPGCL’s Chief Executive Officer AM Khorshedul Alam, Power Development Board Chairman Khaled Mahmud, Michael Schultheiss, Head of Mission of the German embassy in Dhaka, and Prabal Bose, Managing Director of Siemens in Bangladesh.
