Arc’teryx shows its commitment to sustainability! And how! The Vancouver-based retailer brand Arc’teryx, specialising in technical high-performance outwear, unveiled its recommerce programme with the name ‘Rock Solid Used Gear’ subject to its sustainability drive.

This initiative will facilitate the buying and reselling of used gear by the brand at a lower cost, adding the step of incurring necessary repairs to it, thereby reducing the environmental footprint of the brand.

The recommerce initiative was launched to maximise the life of the gears while simultaneously giving access to the technical gear to the customer for a better price while it fulfills its sustainability drive.

“We are framing sustainability as a design problem,” remarked Arc’teryx General Manager and President Jon Hoerauf, in a news statement. He further added, “Strictly focusing on building leading gear is no longer an option for us – we must apply the same design ethos to solving problems of broader social and environmental relevance. Great gear should be able to last through multiple users, and Rock Solid Used Gear is our solution.”

The plan has already been put to action as the US customers can sell their used gear to the local Arc’teryx stores or opt for the online mail-in portal and if the gear qualifies to be less worn to excellent condition with the inner label intact, the gear will undergo the process of the recommerce programme. The customer will also avail a gift card of 20 per cent of their gear’s original retail price.

The brand further strengthens its initiative by looking for options like repurposing and recycling their products that cannot be revived to their functional state. The items not eligible for resale yet are in functional position will be donated to the organisations with outdoor gear requirements.

Arc’teryx, founded in 1989, was taken over by Finland-based Amer Sports. It currently operates over 50 branded stores.  Rock Solid Used Gear is now available online at
