The GMB trade union announced that over 900 Amazon employees in a British warehouse will go on strike for three days next week over a wage issue.
The Coventry Amazon warehouse will experience a two-hour morning and two-hour evening strike from 11th-13th July, according to a statement from GMB. It falls on the same weekend as the company’s ‘Prime Day’ sales event, which is scheduled for 11th-12th July.
“GMB members in Coventry have time and time again shown that this fight will only end with £ 15 an hour and union rights,” GMB Senior Organiser Rachel Fagan said.
The minimal beginning compensation for Amazon employees, one of the biggest e-commerce sites in the world, is between £ 11 and £ 12 per hour, depending on the area. There won’t be any client disruptions because the Coventry site doesn’t fulfil orders directly for customers, according to Amazon.
The Coventry warehouse employees reportedly voted for six further months of strikes last month, according to the union. The workers also went on strike from 12th–14th June.
According to JPMorgan, Amazon is anticipated to generate roughly $ 7 billion in revenue from its Prime Day sales, a 12 per cent increase over what was announced for Prime Day during the third quarter of last year.
