To support Pakistan’s textiles industry, the first-ever Technical Textile Resource Centre is being established at the National Textile University (NTU). The initiative has been taken post considering the potential of technical textiles in comparison to the conventional textiles.
Neelofar Hafeez, Pakistan’s Textile Joint Secretary emphasized the importance of textiles sector in the economy and how technical textiles are more profitable than the conventional textiles as he observes, “Cloth prepared by conventional methods is only Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 a metre, but this sky rockets to Rs. 300 for technical textile in some cases.”
Hafeez also averred that a separate sub-sector of technical textiles would also be developed. Apart from that, the NTU will work in the direction to commence courses for the graduates working in varied sectors, to provide on-job training.
