Sumitra Mahajan, Member of Parliament, representing Indore and Lok Sabha Speaker said that it is difficult to revive textile mills in Indore as it requires huge investment. However a co-operative textile unit could become a possibility. She insisted that smaller textile units like dyeing, knitting or printing can be set up, which will generate employment. Once Indore had seven textile mills but gradual closure of all these mills generated a lot of unemployment. Indore based entrepreneurs are not satisfied with the decision as they feel that if around 5,000 looms can be set up in Burhanpur (mid-size city of Madhya Pradesh) then why can’t the same happen in Indore.
