The State Government of Tamil Nadu (India) has announced to provide a subsidy of Rs. 2.5 crores to set up a textile park in Salem.
According to reports, the Government will either bear 50 per cent of the cost that will be used for the construction of roads, sewage treatment plant and captive power plant or offer subsidies worth Rs. 2.5 crores to the manufacturers.
The Government has been in deliberation with various apparel manufacturer. It is being said that around 10 entrepreneurs will be allowed to build a mini textile park in the Salem region.
Some conditions have, however, been placed by the Government to grant support. These include buying the land on their own, establishment of at least 10 work sheds in the textile park to get the subsidy.
Furthermore, the Government has mentioned that the total investment in building construction and machinery should be double the amount spent on the above-mentioned facilities.
The aim of this initiative is to improve the living standard of the handloom and powerloom weavers in the district.
The entire project will be monitored by the Director of Handloom and textiles which will hold meetings with the manufacturers to take the plan forward.
