No matter, how challenging the market is for apparel manufacturers, some companies are geared up to grow and are equally concerned about the environment too. Dehradun-based GBKC Fashions is one such firm!
The company was recently honoured for its efficient energy management system (EnMS), and now it is geared up to further its energy-saving efforts by having Leed Green Building Certification for the new factory.
Ritesh Sapra, CMD of the company along with Vandeep Singh Ratra, Director and CFO received the ISO 50001 certificate from Nitin Gadkari, Minister of MSME and Minister of Road Transport and Highway and RK Singh, Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Power and New and Renewable Energy. The initiative was taken by CII for MSMEs in association with World Bank and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
GBKC Fashions is amongst the first 50 MSME companies in India to have adopted this standard. The organisation started with an annual capacity of 1,20,000 garments in 2010, and has grown well to now have a capacity of 13,00,000 garments per year.
Through this initiative, the company has managed to achieve 15 to 20 per cent reduction in energy consumption and has further identified opportunities to reduce the energy cost by additional 10 to 15 per cent by the end of FY ’19-20.
A pool of 5 to 10 trained manpower has been developed on energy-efficient selection, operation and maintenance of plant equipment and machinery. Further, this will lead to continual and sustainable improvement of energy performance and development of the energy policy of the company.
Ritesh added “Our production unit is equipped with best-in-class machinery to produce high-class quality products and production facilities are vertically integrated to facilitate all the processes involved in garment manufacturing like line embroidery, fabric cutting, fusing, finishing, packing, etc.”
Manufacturing dress shirts and casual shirts for leading brands in India and abroad, the company uses a varied range of fabrics such as cotton, linens, chambrays, polyesters, velvet, corduroys, etc. “Keeping in mind the global warming and corporate social responsibility, we are 100 per cent committed to give back to the society and work on minimising environmental degradation through various measures,” he added.
Talking about GBKC Fashion’s growth plan for the next 5 years, Ritesh is planning to increase the existing production capacity by 3 times and is looking forward to building a new factory of approximately 60,000 square feet including the corporate office. “We intend to have a Leed Green Building Certification for the new factory and use maximum natural resources in production and operations,” Ritesh concluded.
