Addressing the 34th AGM of AEPC for the third time, Dr. A Sakthivel, Chairman of AEPC stated that, “Against the back drop of exports in 2012-13, apparel exports have picked up really very fast in first four months of FY 2013-14. During April-July 2013-14, exports have increased by 13% in dollar terms compared to same period of previous years. Though, there has been decline in the share of traditional market in India’s total apparel export to world in 2012-13, however, share of non-traditional markets for the same FY has increased from 30% to 34%. As per the Jan.-June 2013 figure, USA’s apparel import from India has increased by 0.6% compared to same period of previous year. In case of EU, India’s export growth is not very positive as yet turnaround is to be seen in this market. Nevertheless, exports for the same period to EU have grown by 0.04%. India’s exports to EU were to the tune of US $ 2.9 billion and to the USA, it was US $ 1.7 billion during Jan.-June 2013, he added.
