The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has prepared a plan to develop the powerloom town of Bhiwandi, in the neighbouring Thane district, as a logistics and godown hub. Around 400 to 500 hectares of land has been earmarked for the proposed logistics and godown hub, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. The existing godowns would also be regularized. He added that the godowns which cannot be regularized even after relaxing norms will have to be demolished.
