Irrespective of all the challenging conditions in the apparel sector, some of the SMEs are geared up to grow – they are expanding and investing in new processes.
Howrah-based Linkart Apparels, which is currently manufacturing denim and knitted garments, is one such firm that plans to invest in wet processing. Notably, the organisation has its own dry process.
Tushar Agarwal, Co-founder of the company informed, “There is need for companies in wet processing segment as Kolkata doesn’t have many players in this sector. Initially, we will have a reasonable capacity, so thatwe can learn it completely, and later the capacity will be enhanced. The market is good and so we hope that our efforts will prove fruitful. We are exploring all options to get better suppliers and infrastructure regarding wet processing.”
Having two lines of total 72 stitching machines, the company is catering to the domestic market through various channels including wholesalers, retailers and brands.
