Around 35,000 working in the textile sector of Lesotho may go jobless if the US drops the nation from its preferential trade accord because of worsening political turmoil going on in the country. Ts’eliso Ramochela, Secretary General of the Alliance of Progressive Trade Unions stated that Lesotho must control the tensioned situation as another African country Swaziland was previously dropped from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which allows African nations to export products to the US duty free. Lesotho’s trade agreement is set to expire in September.
