Rajka Designs, an Ahmedabad-based export house, is planning to double its stitching capacity and explore traditional weaving techniques apart from increased focus on the domestic market.
Samvit Sarabhai, Director of the company informed Apparel Resources, “We are already working with artisans based in Kutch, Ahmedabad and Southern Rajasthan. Now we are going to identify more traditional techniques like ‘ikat’ and will work closely with the weavers of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.”
He further added, “We see this segment as one with great potential and it will give us more design options. We are also going to double our stitching capacity. The expansion may take some time but as we are growing, we have to increase the production.”
Currently, the apparel supplier has a capacity of producing 5,000 garments (womenswear-woven) and 1,000 quilts per month. It already has expertise in handmade fabrics like khadi and handloom with hand embroidery.
The company, which is witnessing 40-50 per cent growth every year, was earlier a 100 per cent Export Oriented Unit (EOU) but now it has also forayed into the domestic market with its brand.
