Colour blindness is definitely a disability in distinguishing colours accurately and the coordination of colours play a major role in the apparel-textile industry today.
The Hohenstein Institute in Bönnigheim is offering a test to assess people’s ability to perceive colour and check their colour vision. The test, named the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test, makes it possible to identify deficiencies in colour vision easily and effectively. The test can be carried out by the Institute at its headquarters in Bönnigheim or at the premises of companies.
The test consists of four trays containing a total of 85 removable colour reference caps spanning the visible spectrum. These tiles have to be put in order according to brightness and colour shade, in a similar way to a colour wheel. For an accurate assessment, it is essential that the light conditions are good and unchanging. Any existing weaknesses in colour vision can be detected from certain variations in the way the panels are arranged. The colour range in which any errors are most frequent determines the type of colour blindness.
