Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap inaugurated a garment innovation centre last week.
At the inauguration ceremony, Keshap said that the US companies bring with them not only the highest standards of technology, design and innovation but also of ethics and environmental sustainability. This will help and support the Sri Lankan garment industry as well.
The garment centre is a creation of Star Garments which is a division of Komar, a US-based enterprise in Colombo.
Komar is known worldwide as a leader in making, designing and sourcing of apparels. The company bought Star Garment Group (Sri Lanka) in early 2016.
The Group has been in Sri Lanka for more than 40 years and has been serving several renowned retailers and brands across the world.
Komar has made huge investments in the island nation to expand its business operations.
The company converted Star Garment Group’s old factory to a highly advanced innovation centre that boasts of sample room, resource library and excellent facilities for patternmaking.
