The recent spate of stress that the readymade garment industry of Bangladesh is going through is taking its toll on the apparel manufacturers with 3 more factories closing down for good, unable to sustain the losses that they’ve suffered, any longer.
The authorities of Savar-based Raquef Apparels Washing and Packaging Industry, Passion Jeans, and Passion Apparels and Ware announced the closure of the factories recently because of continued losses amidst falling exports, underlined media reports.
The three factories, which together provided employment to around 3,000 garment workers, have reportedly assured to clear all arrears and dues of the employees by 29 March.
“We are okay if we get our salaries and other dues in time,” said Fazlul Haque, a staff of Passion Jeans, speaking to the media.
The authorities further reportedly promised to give January’s salary and allowance of workers and staff by 27 February and February’s salary (20 days), compensation and other benefits by 29 March.
They’ve also agreed to clear the dues of workers, who recently resigned or were terminated, by 5 March.
Meanwhile, President of the Bangladesh Garment and Industrial Workers Federation Rafiqul Islam Sujon informed the media that the authorities took the decision following discussion with the labour leaders.
