Launching a public consultation on its Fairtrade Textile Standard, Germany-based Fairtrade International is seeking inputs from the garment and textiles industry to update the standard in an all-comprehensive manner. The draft version of this standard, now under public consultation, includes requirements relating to unionisation and freedom of association, workers’ health and safety, and environmental regulations. Fairtrade International is said to have run mock audits with textile producers in India and South Africa during the last year. Reportedly, the standard will be monitored by the independent certifier FLO-Cert.
