Three more industrial parks will begin their construction in Ethiopia during the current fiscal year 2018/19.
This was announced recently by Lelise Neme, CEO, Ethiopia Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC). Speaking further on the same, Neme said that while Semera and Aysha industrial parks are in the eastern region of Ethiopia, Assosa industrial park is located in the western part of the country.
Neme also said that the country is focusing on textile and garment sector while setting up these industrial parks stressing that the nation aimed to transform its agrarian economy into industrialised one, by 2025.
In addition to the above mentioned parks, four other such areas have already been commissioned, which takes up the total number of industrial parks to 7.
The 4 parks that are already operational in Ethiopia are Hawassa, Mekele, Kombolcha and Bole Lemi.
Another industrial park, Adama, was inaugurated on 7 October 2018 by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Built at a cost of US $ 140 million, this park is expected to generate an annual revenue of US $ 40 million and create 25,000 jobs for its people.
With this, the number of industrial parks operational in Ethiopia has risen to 5. The country aims to increase its number of operational industrial parks to 30 by the year 2025.
