The leading cotton producers of the world are now planning to increase the production of organic cotton. Big cotton markets like China and USA are likely to raise organic cotton production, due to the continued efforts by organizations like Textile Exchange and Better Cotton Standard System. The aim is to reduce water consumption, eradicate the use of pesticides and well-being of farmers. Companies are now stepping in to invest more in the sector. Swedish apparel retailer H&M has increased its use of organic cotton by 29 per cent in last year, a rise from 7.8 per cent in 2012 and also invested US $ 2.7 million in the Better Cotton Initiative’s Fast Track Program.
