Arvind OG Nonwovens Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Arvind Ltd. and OG Corporation of Japan, opened its manufacturing facilities near Ahmedabad recently. The company is producing high quality nonwoven fabrics using needle-punch technology for bag house filtration, artificial leather and a variety of other applications. The JV also has a technology tie-up with Kureha Ltd. of Japan.
AOG has installed custom-built machines specifically designed to achieve Japanese quality standards and capable of handling various fibres such as M-Aramid, homopolymer acrylic, poly-phenelyene sulfone (PPS), polyimide polypropylene and polyester. These will be manufactured at the newly installed facilities following the highest global standards of quality while leveraging the advantage of the India cost of production.
Marking Arvind’s entry into nonwoven fabrics, the new manufacturing unit is a fresh direction for the company. “The new facility is a big milestone for Arvind, and we are looking to aggressively grow this vertical with our Japanese partners. Beyond this, we are also looking to invest in other technologies and product categories in the non-woven space going forward,” states Punit Lalbhai, Executive Director of Arvind Ltd. and CEO of the Advanced Materials Division.
H. Machino, Managing Director of OG Corporation India and Director of the India JV, sees India as a huge opportunity market. The unit has started production with one line of needle-punching technology at an investment of nearly Rs. 50 crore with a targeted turnover in excess of Rs. 100 crore in three years.
