Spanish fast-fashion retailer Zara has opened a ‘click and collect’ pop-up store in London. The new temporary concept will fill in while its flagship in Westfield Stratford goes through expansion and redecoration.
This will be the brand’s first online-only physical space where customers can peruse through a curated collection of men’s and women’s clothing while the delivery will be made directly to their doorstep.
The 200-metre square location will be open until the end of May 2018 and also facilitate exchanges and returns in the meantime.
For Inditex-owned Zara, this store will act as a testing field for the digital integrations planned for the soon to be opened flagship. The entire space will be equipped with tech-savvy retail assistants who will carry around mobile devices for customers to shop online while they are inside the store.
In addition to this, the store’s mirrors are implanted with smart information technology. Shoppers can scan garments of their choice, making use of the radio frequency identification (RFID) system. The mirror will then display a slew of recommended products that can be styled along with the user’s first pick. The technology will go as far as matching the right colour and the person’s pre-selected size in these blessings.
Zara will also be upgrading its payments system and customers will now be able to pay digitally either through Zara’s own or the Inditex Group’s app via InWallet. A Bluetooth operated card terminal system will also enhance the shopping experience.
Furthermore, conventional cash-desk will be supplemented with self-checkout counters that are equipped with advanced auto-recognition machinery.
Most of these digital upgrades are expected to be a part of the East London flagship that is currently undergoing developments to accommodate an ever-growing demand in the area.
