Zara will provide its service for selling, mending or donating used garments in the United States by the end of October as a way of prolonging their life cycle and decreasing waste, company owner Inditex has revealed.
The “Pre-Owned” platform of Zara, which debuted in Britain in November 2022, is currently operational in 16 European nations. As part of its plan to also assist in lowering the consumption of raw materials, Inditex has stated that it was dedicated to running the platform in all strategic markets by 2025.
The service is accessible in Germany, France, and Spain through Zara stores, the company website, and an app.
Although Zara has not yet released information on the number of users in the areas where the service is offered, Oscar Garcia Maceiras, CEO of Inditex, stated that over 22 million people use the company’s online platforms every day.
Products for resale are also available from other quick fashion companies like H&M. In the US, used H&M clothing is offered on a separate website thanks to a collaboration with ThredUp.
Following the release of first-half earnings, the CEO of Inditex announced that Zara will also be introducing live shopping shows in the US and other important markets, including Spain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Britain, Ireland, and The Netherlands, in the near future.
Since their November introduction, Zara’s sales have increased thanks in part to weekly five-hour live shopping sessions that are aired on Douyin, the Chinese sister site of TikTok, according to retail analytics firm EDITED.
