The Woolmark Company has collaborated on developing innovative new apparel wadding to be used inside quilted garments, namely, Lavalan. Made from wool, this new natural, environment friendly alternative to the synthetic wadding consists of 85 per cent Merino wool. The textile is washable to 60°C and dimensionally stable to help avoid shrinkage and retain its shape when washed. Already being adopted by fashion houses and high-profile sporting manufacturers for using inside jackets, vests, gloves and pants, Lavalan is an earth-friendly alternative to traditional synthetic fillings. “It was necessary to find a way to process and blend wool in a way to be able to produce a down-like wadding that was strong, stable and light enough to be used in the inner layer for active sportswear, without compromising the natural benefits and properties of wool,” says NV Van Riel, a Woolmark licensee.
