The American multinational retailing corporation, Walmart, has reportedly appointed Devendra Chawla as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its India subsidiary. Devendra is expected to take charge as COO of Merchandising, Marketing and Omni-channel Divisions at Walmart India by the second week of August.
Devendra dissociated from Future Consumer, a part of Future Group, as its CEO earlier this month. He had joined the Group in 2009. He had also previously worked at companies like Reliance Retail, Coca-Cola and Asian Paints. At Walmart India, Devendra will report to CEO Krish Iyer.
The newly appointed COO is expected to play a key role in Walmart’s growth in the Indian market. Devendra’s experience in managing retail operations will support Walmart’s ‘mera Kirana programme’ that aims at transforming small-scale retail shops in the country. This will further help the latter at serving their customers efficiently and on a wider scale.
Walmart is currently present in nine Indian states with 21 best-price modern wholesale stores. It is continuously making plans and investments to increase its reach in the country. The move to appoint a new COO will further help the retail giant to better understand the needs of the Indian market and develop its strategies accordingly.
