Retail giant Walmart Inc.’s Walmart Foundation and Flipkart have combined their efforts to help the frontline medical professionals by contributing Rs. 46 crore towards protective equipment and non-profit organisations.
In a statement, Walmart and Flipkart announced that they have procured 300,000 N95 face masks and 1 million protective medical gowns to be distributed by NGOs to healthcare workers.
The access to a global supply chain helped them procure the consignment which was worth Rs. 38 crore.
In addition to the equipment, the Walmart Foundation has allocated Rs. 7.7 crore to be donated to NGOs Goonj and Srijan, both of which are working towards supporting the vulnerable communities.
The funds will be used to provide farmers, micro-businesses, migrant workers and rural communities with food, medicines and hygiene supplies.
CEO of Flipkart Group, Kalyan Krishnamurthy said in a statement, “Our teams are working around the clock to respond to the crisis with compassion and care. The emergency relief efforts we are announcing today underscore our commitment to continuing to work along with the private and public sector in India to respond to this unprecedented challenge.”
