After looking for almost 8 months, Walmart has found its new Chief Marketing Officer in Target’s Senior Vice President William White.
William White will take up the position effective 11 May, confirmed an internal memo.
William was a Coca-Cola company executive who later joined Target in 2013 and was looking at category and brand marketing including the retailer’s ubiquitous ‘Target Run’ campaign.
At Walmart, William will report to Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside and will lead a team of six. He has replaced Barbara Messing, who had left the company earlier last year.
The company memo said that William “is a customer centric, innovative marketer and is a passionate leader who loves to build and nurture teams.” It also credited him for helping to drive sales and build brand loyalty at Target.
Walmart has expanded its marketing effort in recent years as the retailer is trying to publicise its fast-growing areas like curbside grocery pickup, which it promoted earlier this year in a Super Bowl ad featuring movie characters.
