Edward Razek, Victoria’s Secret Chief Marketing Officer, will be submitting his resignation following the negative reactions he got, reportedly, for his comments on plus-size and transgender models.
He said, while talking to media, that transgender models had no place at brand’s fashion shows – a statement that does not sync with the contemporary thoughts of industry and public.
His decision to quit comes immediately in the wake of brand’s decision to appoint Valentina Sampaio as its first transgender model.
It is important to note here that Edward has been personally selecting the models for the brand for over 15 years now.
On resigning from his post, Edward said“Few weeks back, I had shared with Les Wexner, CEO, about my desire to retire somewhere in the middle of August. It was a tough conversation, as some of you know, we have shared so much together for so many years.”
The resignation also holds significance considering that over 100 models recently signed an open letter to the brand expressing their concerns for the safety of women aspiring to be models for the brand.
Recently, there has been allegations of sexual misconduct against photographers working with the brand.
